The Foundation values its local business sponsors, welcoming the chance to work together on various fundraising efforts. Our recent annual Radiothon is a case in point, where our Presenting Sponsor, Sun Country Toyota, has been an important contributor since the event’s inception in 2015.

The annual Radiothon is a live event, broadcast on Radio NL 610 FM, from 6am – 6pm. Phone banks are staffed by volunteers from sponsoring businesses, and supporters of the event, including hospital staff, grateful patients, local businesses, and community organizations and clubs, are interviewed on the day.

This year’s event, which took place on Thursday, February 25, was once again presented by Sun Country Toyota. The company, founded in 2002 by Rob Splane, Owner Principal, is a family business that has grown remarkably over the years, including expansions and the recent opening of a Collision Centre. Sharing success by supporting community initiatives such as Radiothon is important for both the owner and the employees of Sun Country Toyota. In addition to  RIH Foundation, the Splane family also supports initiatives that focus on children and youth, poverty reduction, homelessness, and the family’s local church, Kamloops Alliance.

“I am a supporter of  Royal Inland Hospital Foundation because through it I can support the skilled, committed and hardworking technicians, nurses, and doctors of our hospital in Kamloops.  The Foundation exists to assist these efforts by funding the best equipment available as quickly as possible,”

Rob explained, “I love Radiothon because it gives everyone in the community, regardless of economic status, the chance to participate and make a difference for healthcare in our region.”

The extent of local support for Radiothon is reflected in the numbers. As the Foundation’s fundraising event, raised over $240,000 in 2021 alone! Donations ranging from $10 to $100,000 all add up and enable the Foundation to support Royal Inland Hospital. In addition, the incredible involvement of the local citizens goes a long way to showing our healthcare workers how much the community cares and appreciates them.

Rob’s support of the Foundation goes even further as he serves on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He believes that when you really believe in something and are truly committed to it, you give not only money, but also time. His work on the Board allows him to serve the greater good, work alongside talented and committed staff, and associate with  other community-minded people who make up the Board of Directors.

“We are all so blessed to be a part of this community, and sponsoring Radiothon is a way to give back, a way for our staff and the 50+ families it represents to say thank you to our healthcare workers and the whole community. “
