The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) Foundation is thrilled to recognize the Kamloops Street Rod Association for their remarkable $40,000 donation in support of pediatric care at Royal Inland Hospital. This generous gift marks the Association’s largest donation to date and reflects the dedication of its members, the generosity of community sponsors, and the power of people coming together to make a meaningful difference for local families.
The funds have helped purchase numerous pieces of equipment such as vein finders, phototherapy blankets, oximeters, and more, all supporting the care provided to RIH’s youngest patients. A portion of their donations also help provide thoughtfully prepared goodie bags filled with colouring supplies, toys, and teddy bears for children visiting the Teck Emergency Department, offering comfort and joy during what can often be a frightening time.
In honour of this incredible contribution, the Consult Room in the Art and Norma James Pediatric Department will be named in recognition of the Kamloops Street Rod Association. This private space is used for consultations between RIH’s pediatric team and the loved ones and caregivers of young patients. It is also an invaluable space for outpatient procedures and an important resource for RIH’s Pediatric Outpatient Clinic.
“This room is an important and well-used space for our pediatric team,” says Heather Pehowich, Pediatric Outpatient Registered Nurse at RIH. “I personally utilize it all the time, and it plays a meaningful role in supporting children and families through consultations and outpatient care. We are incredibly grateful for the Kamloops Street Rod Association’s ongoing support and the difference they continue to make for pediatric patients at RIH.”
Since 1992, the Kamloops Street Rod Association has proudly supported the RIH Foundation, with a special focus on helping children and families who turn to RIH for care. Over the years, their cumulative giving has now exceeded $118,000.
Founded by a passionate group of street rod enthusiasts, the Association has become much more than a car club. It is a community-minded organization dedicated to giving back. From bringing joy to local seniors through car visits to raising funds for local healthcare, its members have built a legacy rooted in kindness, connection, and service. Their fundraising efforts are made possible through a wide range of community initiatives, including car shows, poker runs, 50/50 raffles, ongoing hot dog barbecues, sponsorships, and more. Every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting pediatric care at RIH.
“We are so grateful to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and everyone in the community who helps make our fundraising possible,” say members of the Kamloops Street Rod Association. “No contribution is too big or too small. Every bit helps, and together, we can continue to help others.
