Foundation For The Future

Planned Giving

A promising future....it's in our hands

For over 100 years, Royal Inland Hospital has provided quality health care for residents of central British Columbia. With advances in technology and treatment, health care is constantly changing for the better, but these changes are costly. Limited government funding does not cover the total cost to equip a first rate facility like Royal Inland Hospital.

Community support helps ensure that we all will receive the best care available, both now and in the future. You can help make this possible by including the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation in your estate plans.

A Gift in Your Will

A legally valid Will ensures that your estate will be distributed according to your exact wishes. A bequest (gift in your Will) is an easy way to make a charitable donation.

A bequest may be simply expressed in these words:

"I give or bequeath to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation the sum of $_____ or (% of my estate) to be used for such purposes as the Foundation may determine."

—OR

"I give or bequeath to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, the residue of my estate to be used."

Your estate will receive a charitable donation receipt for the full value of your bequest.

A Gift of Life Insurance

"A gift of life insurance was an easy way to make a major contribution to our regional hospital which will benefit our children and grandchildren in the future."

Give a new policy

You can set up a life insurance gift plan on your life or that of a loved one and name the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation the owner and beneficiary.

Premium payments qualify for charitable tax credit and after a specific period of time, the policy, through a premium offset plan, can usually pay for itself.

Give an existing policy

With a simple alteration, you can designate the RIH Foundation as owner and beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy that you may already hold, and receive tax benefits based on the policy cash surrender value.

Registered Assets - RRSPs & RRIFs

There are two ways to donate the proceeds of an RRSP or RRIF:

  1. You can name the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation as the direct beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF. Upon your death the proceeds would be paid directly to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation without going through probate.
  2. You can name your estate as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF and leave instructions in your Will to donate all or part of the RRSP or RRIF to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. You may specify a percentage of the RRSPor RRIF or a particular dollar amount to be donated. The donation qualifies for the charitable donations tax credit for up to 100% of income in the year of death and in the year preceding. Note: The trustee of your RRSP or RRIF will withhold taxes and probate will apply.

Gifts of Stock and Securities

If you own stock or other securities that have appreciated in value, you could receive significant tax savings by donating them to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.
